En Largillière is a Pommard Premier Cru appellation for red Pinot Noir wines in the Côte de Beaune. The vineyard is situated on the northeast side of Pommard village, midway between the village walls and the boundary with the Beaune appellation beyond.
The four hectare (nearly ten-acre) vineyard is very well-located, though perhaps less well-known than its neighbors. It lies above Pommard Les Grands Epenots on the Côte d’Or slope, with the well regarded village-level vineyard Les Noizons further up the hillside.
Les Pézerolles and Les Charmots are located on either side (to the northeast and southwest, respectively).
The En Largillière name comes from the richness of clay within the site’s soils – argile is French for “clay”. As a result of the rich clay soils here, Largillière wines are often very powerful and rich, with a rustic element which marks them out as definitive of the Pommard style.
