This is a very rare beast indeed. Made by the legendary Jules Chauvet a Beaujolais merchant and precursor of “natural” wines. Jules Chauvet is an emblematic character in the history of viticulture.
For half a century, he managed not only the wine trade but also the agricultural and wine-growing family estate (6 ha of Beaujolais-Villages), which allowed him not to limit himself to laboratory research, but also to carry out his “life-size” winemaking experiments; the “Jules CHAUVET cuvage” had become famous in the scientific world of wine. From 1962 to 1988, he trained more than forty trainees. He was a Master in the literal sense, Master to think about wine, to vinify and to taste. In 1989, on June 16, he died in the house that had known the cycle of his life.
“Beaujolais is nature with its perfumes, its light, its infinities, the rest of the evening, the enthusiasm of the morning. » Jules Chauvet
I have some bottles without labels one of which I have opened as I just had to try it!!! It has all of the classic Marc tendencies that you would expect, but there is a sweetness to the fruit and delicate perfume to the experience that set it apart. Almost in line with Jules’s epitaph. It has added to my knowledge and catalogue of life’s experiences!
