Medium-deep garnet in color with clearing at the edges. Full, fragrant & aromatic nose of mature, ripe fruit aromas of dark cherries, blueberries, & cassis with overtones of floral notes of violets & lavender, cigar box notes of cedar & tobacco, spices, herbal notes, leather, truffles, earthy/dusty, minerals, sandalwood & hints of sous bois in the background. Medium-full bodied with a very good concentration of well balanced & silky smooth textured, mature, ripe fruit flavors of cherries, mulberries & red currants with spices, cocoa & minerals. Long lingering finish. Drinks quite well at present & at 54 years of age, it is at its absolute peak of development. Although it may hold here for a little bit longer, I doubt any further development would occur from additional aging. Fill was in lower neck right above the shoulder; cork was saturated 1/2 up but was intact. This wine had a certain freshness as if it was much younger. A remarkable & lovely wine!
