1966 Vintage Tasted: Nov 2020
Lots of power here. The tobacco, herbs, spice, crushed rock, leaf, red currant, cigar box and cedar notes are strong here. The wine is full-bodied, concentrated and still shows a lot of intensity. There is a wealth of ripe, tobacco infused, spicy, cedary fruit on the palate, but the tannins are a bit gruff, giving the wine a rustic, old-school, long, classic finish. 95 Points
And some recent CT’s

A pristine bottle given one hour in a decanter before serving. A very traditionally-styled Latour that’s a bit leaner than more recent vintages (clearly lacks the sweetness of fruit of the ’82 drunk alongside). Still. it’s very pure and refined showing classic vineyard flavors of tilled earth and walnuts with a crisp yet silky texture. The finish is taut and so fine with complex notes of dark spices and minerals.

High-filled bottle, corked pulled out in one piece with Durand. Opened at 7pm before heading out for dinner at 8pm, nose was subtle with grippy tannins for the initial pour at home. It continued to develop and mellow on the palate throughout 3 hours dinner, last glass was the best but even then it wasn’t really fully opened on the nose. Funny thing to say about a 58 years old wine but I believed this bottle was opened too young. First Growth concentration and depth for sure. Dense and masculine, like a typical Latour, this has many years of life ahead, upside from here. Many people believe Latour is the wine of the vintage but I have better experiences with good bottles of ‘66 Haut Brion. 1/4.

Tasted in Avalon, this wine had a very deep red center and orange rims. The medium+ intensity nose featured blackberries, minerals, smoke, and fig notes.
In the mouth, this wine was a little funky at first but developed nicely over the course of several hours to show attractive rounded tannin, decent acidity, and excellent length. It was attractive.
This wine was excellent and still easily in its prime. Arguably 96 points
